History of the Monolophosaurus

As for its length, we can say that the maximum the animal could have was 600 centimeters, while its height was only 200, on the other hand, its weight was not even a ton, only 700 kilograms was the limit.

On the main remains that were found we can affirm that the place of the facts was a land occupied by great masses of water, reason why it is quite probable that this animal has developed its existence in the coastal zone of a great ocean or at least in the borders of a lake of great magnitude, and its structure was prepared for such situation.

In 1984, in the Wucaiwan formation, the main remains of this animal were found, this place is located in the Asian country of China.
After 10 long years finally a couple of scientists dedicated to Paleontology, Curie and Zhao, took the trouble to make the review of this curious specimen.

However, it was later learned that two years before the review by the two researchers, the name of this great specimen had already appeared in a book that detailed various specimens belonging to prehistory.

The two scientists mentioned in the previous paragraphs were in charge of placing this huge animal inside the basal tatans, so they had to make a clarification about the fact that it was probably an animal inside Allosauridae.

After several debates that lasted for many years, two scientists of different nationalities appeared and reported in 1995 that this specimen was nothing more and nothing less than a close relative of the dinosaurs belonging to the Avetheropoda group, a detail that caused a stir in the whole world of Paleontology.

After a few years, another paleontologist made his appearance and confirmed what was exposed by Holtz and Smith, the two scientists who placed the Monolophosaurus as a close relative of the Avetheropoda.

Characteristics of Monolophosaurus

About the qualities that come to differentiate this animal we can mention the structure of the muzzle area, which presents in the middle zone a protuberance that looks much like a ridge, that is why scientists have come to call it that way finally, this protuberance is born precisely in the region of the premaxillary.

In addition, we can clearly see that this protuberance continues to the rear zone from where the nasal bone elements are located and even in the area where the tear bones are located, but in the anterior zone.

Similarly, the upper part of this protuberance covers a region of the jaw area. On the bone structure of the skull we can detail that it did not exceed 80 centimeters in length, and also enjoyed a flattened shape in the lateral areas.
